# tcp-connect

## tcp-connect

tcp-connect - Test that a TCP service is responding

**Description:** Test similar to a ping but at a higher level in the protocol stack. The test attempts to connect to a TCP port to verify if a service is reachable.

**Syntax:**

```
  tcp-connect host {host | net} |
              {port <tcp-port>} |
              {timeout <time-in-seconds>} }
```

**Parameters:**

| Parameter | Description |
| --- | --- |
| host | The remote address or domain name to test. |
| port | TCP port (service) to test. |
| timeout | Time in seconds before giving up. |
